Getting Your Children Involved in Election Day

Don't forget to vote on Tue., Nov. 4! Even though you have to be 18 to vote, it's never too early to talk to children about voting and the importance of it. Here are some simple ways to engage children around voting.

  1. Take your child with you to vote. You can explain where you're going and what you're doing. Talk to them about the topics that are important to you and why you vote.
  2. Do a mock election with everyone in your home! Vote on what to have for dinner, what book to read at bedtime, or what movie to watch together. Explain how the choice that gets the most votes wins.
  3. Read books about voting. There are some great books like Grace for President, Everyone Gets a Say, and Lilian's Right to Vote that help children understand voting and are a great conversation starters. Check out this list for more recommendations.
