A message from MomsRising
As parents, we want the best for our kids – especially when we can’t be there to take care of them ourselves. It’s no surprise that choices about child care are some of the toughest early decisions parents have to make.
One important source of information for NC families is our state’s Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS), more commonly known as the Star-Rated License.
North Carolina was one of the first states to create a QRIS system, and it’s time for us to update it to make sure it’s meeting its goals of increasing quality and providing information for parents.
Last month, the NC Child Care Commission, NC Division of Child Development and Early Education, and the Care & Learning Coalition held educational sessions and Q&A sessions to explain the proposed changes to the star-rated system.
The NC Child Care Commission will begin taking public comments on the proposed changes starting Feb. 3rd.
We know how important quality is in choosing a child care option. The star-rated QRIS system is one important way North Carolina both encourages quality and helps parents make informed decisions.
As a NC Child Care Commissioner, I want you to know it is critical that we hear what you think in order to make this new system work for families.
Your feedback will help us build a better, more effective QRIS star-rated licensing system for all NC families.
