2020 is a Census year! To help children understand the importance of the Census and how it impacts each person, try this fun activity from a member of CCRI’s Early Learning Team and Quality Every Day coach, Meagan Hopes.
Conduct a survey of everyone in your home asking what ice cream flavor each person likes.
Talk about how the survey helps the family decide how much of each type of ice cream they would like to order from the store.
Pro Tip: For older children, talk about what might happen if every person in the home was not represented in the ice cream survey. Who would be left out? Would those who ordered and received ice cream need to share their ice cream with those who were not counted in the order? What if there is not enough ice cream for everyone? What if the family runs out of ice cream before the next ice cream survey?
The Census shows us how many people in our community need different resources and how important it is to collect this information from people to make sure they get the resources they need.
If you haven't completed the Census yet, there's still time! Click here to get started — it only takes about 10 minutes to make a big impact in your community!
Stay safe (and at home) and take care.
