Kindergarten Transition ... Building Bridges
Child Care Resources works in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) on a kindergarten transition initiative called Building Bridges to Kindergarten (funded by CMS’ Early Reading First grant).
Child Care Resources' Kindergarten Transition Specialist leads an advisory team in designing and implementing transitional supports for children and families starting school and their child care providers and preschool teachers. These include preschool class trips to visit local kindergarten classrooms, kindergarten transition training opportunities for preschool teachers/child care providers and special events to support entry to school.
Ready, Set, Go!
New Kindergarten Transition Video Now Available
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) and Child Care Resources Inc. (CCRI) announce the release of a new video entitled Ready, Set, Go! Making the Move to Kindergarten. Aimed at preschool children and their families, Ready, Set, Go! takes viewers on a virtual tour of kindergarten as the school day unfolds, giving the audience a glimpse of today's active kindergarten curriculum with its emphasis on literacy and math. As the movie ends, a slide show follows with important enrollment information to help everyone get ready for school.
Ready, Set, Go! is both a unique production and a powerful transition tool that speaks to young children in a way they can understand, using child narrators to answer common questions about school, such as:
- What will my classroom look like?
- What will my teacher be like?
- What will I learn in kindergarten?
- Will I make new friends?
Funded through an Early Reading First grant, the twelve-minute video (in English and Spanish) is being distributed free of charge to preschool programs and child care providers throughout Mecklenburg County. Copies will also be available for the general public through Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County and through Child Care Resources' Traveling Family and Teacher Resource Center.
Ready, Set, Go! Making the Move to Kindergarten airs weekdays at 9:00 AM throughout the summer on CMS-TV 3. The English version airs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The Spanish version airs Wednesday.
